Tournament Rules
Please read the following tournament rules.
ANY violation of the following rules could result in deduction or disqualification.
Any announcements the day of the tournament take precedence.
No coolers will be allowed at the site of the weigh-in!
- Eligibility – Fishermen 18 years old and older will be allowed to compete in the tournament. Persons under 18 years can participate only as a teammate of a parent, guardian or relative 18 years or older. (Entries must be by team (2) people per team)
- Safety – All contestants must observe U.S. Coast Guard and Minnesota Boating Regulations.
- Sportsmanship – Contestants will be expected to be courteous, safety conscious and practice fundamental sporting principals. Also, must follow all Minnesota fishing rules and regulations. Any infractions can result in disqualification.
- Tackle – Artificial and live baits may be used.
- Lake Headquarters – All contestants must start and end at this point. (Pelican Cove, Key Largo, Valhalla Island)
- Fishing Hours – Check in time will begin at 6:00 am. Tournament hours will be held from 7:30am to 3:00pm. Weigh in to follow.
- Late Penalty – Contestants who return later than prescribed times will be penalized 5% of total weight and will be disqualified for largest Walleye and other individual prizes. If over 15 minutes late will result in disqualification.
- Largest Stringer of Walleye – Prizes will be based on most weight (pounds and pounds). Each boat will be judged by a total of 4 Walleye by the total weight. Only Walleye will be counted are 14 inches or longer. Only two Walleye per boat may be 20 inches or longer, of those two Walleye, only one can be 24 inches or longer. In the event no fish are caught, we will pay out 1st, 2nd & 3rd places by drawing of team numbers and no payout on 4th through 10th places. In the event we have a tie for any places 1st through 9th we will combine the prize money of the place that tied and place below that and split the money between the tied teams, the placing below a tie will be removed from scoring (example: team 56 – 1st, team 20 – 2nd, team 73 – 3rd, team 12 – 3rd, team 51 – 5th, & so on).
- Largest Walleye – In the event of a tie for largest walleye the winner will be determined by a coin flip. Winner of the coin flip will have a choice of one of two prizes offered. Remaining prize will be awarded to the other contestant with largest walleye.
- Largest Stringer of Panfish – Prize will be based on most weight (pounds and pounds). Each boat will be judged on a total of 4 Panfish by the total weight. In the event we have a tie for 1st the prize money will be split between the tied teams.
- 50/50 Biggest Fish Contest – There is an additional fee to enter this contest. Each Boat entered will be judged on one largest any species fish. Prize will be based on most weight (pounds and pounds). The event of a tie for 1st the prize money for the 50/50 biggest fish will be divided between the teams that tied.
- Inspection – Boats will be inspected before and during the tournament. Cheating will result in immediate disqualification.
- Note – It shall be illegal for two contest boats to pull up to each other during tournament hours, or any other boat other than official’s boats. It will also be illegal for contest boats to go ashore or into off limit areas during tournament hours except at specified shore rest area. (Pelican Cove or Key Largo Restaurant & Lounge, Valhalla Island)
- Fishermen ID – All boats will be issued a boat number id when checking in. This boat number id must be on the boat during the contest and returned at the end of the tournament for weigh-in.
- Prize Money – Full payout is guaranteed.
- Off Limit Areas – Bloody Lake starting at the Bloody Run Bridge. Lake Shetek Outlet starting at the Des Moines River (Rushes). Lake Fremont starting at the Fremont Bridge.
- Starting Procedure – Due to changes in shore management and public safety, we will be starting boats in the following manner: 7:30am – Teams 1-35, 7:32am – Teams 36-70, 7:34am – Teams 70+.
We will start each flight of boats with an air horn. No boat shall reach a speed of over 20mph during take-off. All boats are required to return at 3:00pm!
